Oh, so full of Science...
Paper goes out to PNAS today, and first draft of the prelim (sorry, "Preliminary Qualifying Exam Proposal") now reads from beginning to end without stopping. Still missing a couple of graphs, but that's half an hour with Prism, and then it's off to Jorge's desk, followed by presentation of lab meeting at 2:30. Whew!
Should be a good weekend. Madison Food and Wine Show tomorrow, pumpkin pie and boardgames with Jeff and Laura (who also just got engaged - I expect a good deal of ring-showing-off will go on) on Sunday. Time for a break. Let's hope Anita can wind herself down from work enough to actually enjoy herself...

Literature
I just finished Michael Chabon's novella The Final Solution. Really a lovely little book. The last, bittersweet case of Sherlock Holmes, in 1944. Chabon has a feel for that period of history (see The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay), and a deft hand with a melancholy mood. The feeling I have after finishing The Final Solution is very much like the feeling I had after first reading Peter Beagle's A Fine And Private Place: quietly sad, nostalgic, but hopeful. It's a good thing.
