This year, for Hannukah, my Dad got me "Kitchen of Light", a Scandinavian cookbook. Anita and I were a bit perplexed, not having really thought of Swedish as one of the world's great cuisines, but we've finally gone ahead and made a meal from the book.
What you're looking at there is honey and mustard marinated salmon, rosemary apples, and spinach soup with tarragon-poached eggs. Good lord, is it tasty. We're not quite ready to move to Oslo just yet, but my goodness. Even the apples, which are just Golden Deliciouses sliced up and sauteéd in butter with a sprig of rosemary, are really outstanding. Thanks, Dad!
Add a little Annbjørg Lien music in the background for atmosphere, and you'd darn near mistake us for Norwegians. I'll get Anita to stand on my shoulders and wear a blonde wig. The illusion will be impenetrable.
We've got apple crisp (non-Scandinavian - from the ever-reliable Joy of Cooking) in the oven, and it's shaping up to be a very pleasant evening.

wow. I wish steve was as into cooking as you are. The best I can uaually get him to do is make instant potatoes at the same time as pan-frying pork chops. Although, to his credit, he did make up a pretty good soy sauce/mustard marinade for them.
That's twice now you've made me want to come over for dinner. You guys have a nice little table set-up and all the accessories, too.
I'm more into the eating, if you want to know the truth...
Actually, cooking is really relaxing. As long as I can keep Anita from following me around with a sponge trying to clean up every little spill, I find the whole experience very mellow.
I do have to give her credit for the ambience. She's got a very good sense for interior decoration. And placemats. She really likes placemats.
Anytime you want to come over, Roman, you're more than welcome! :-)
